This workshop gives students detailed instruction and routines to perform massage on newborn babies through age 3. Students will learn strokes to incorporate into their prenatal massage to help enhance mother’s relaxation and foster bonding during the prenatal period.

Students will earn certificates that will enable them to massage newborn babies in clinical settings such as hospitals or birthing centers, or as an addition to their own private practices. They will also learn to teach parents how to massage their babies to enhance the parental bond between visits to the massage professional. Parents are empowered to connect with their babies through massage and a strong bond and a level of trust is developed through the application of massage as learned in this class.

Birth can be traumatic for both mothers and babies. This class provides information for the therapist to further their understanding of underlying issues that can result from birth that have long range effect to the body. As a touch therapist, these patterns can be recognized in the infant and addressed.

Students will learn:

  • Basic Massage strokes for babies at different stages of development
  • Do’s and don’ts of massaging babiesH
  • How to listen to both babies and parents to assist in releasing the traumas that may surround birth, even in a natural, instinctive birth
  • The physiology of birth on the baby which can impact the body throughout its life
  • Specialized routines for relief of colic, gas and constipation
  • Specialized routines for problems with nursing and latching on
  • Specialized routines for problems with getting baby to sleep and soothing a cranky baby
  • Routines for the pregnant mom to foster bonding through touch before baby is born
  • How to facilitate a positive relationship between parents and children
  • How to teach simple routines to parents to do with their babies between massage sessions
  • How to set up and teach an Infant Massage class for parents
  • How to market and promote your new service

Through this infant massage certification students will receive HypnoBirthing Infant Massage Certification, and CEU credit hours for Massage Therapists, Nurses, Doula’s and HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Educators. Tuition includes text, a syllabus for teaching parent classes, handouts that can be copied and distributed to parents,  and a lifelike baby doll (a $50 value) to use for practice during class and to use to demonstrate strokes to parents.

For more information check out the Hypnobirthing website.
